Dr. Jerome C. Harste taught at Indiana University from 1970 – 2006. Although his wife maintains that he “flunked retirement” in that he remains active in the profession, he really is officially retired from IU.
Dr. Harste considers himself both a literacy scholar and a watercolor artist. The Harste Alternative Literacy Scholarship which IU created in his name is available to advanced graduate students who also share an interest in the relationship between literacy and the arts.
