Alfie was 7-years-old when he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
The first couple of months at the American Family Children's Hospital were really hard for Alfie. He developed Sepsis and spent much of his time in the PICU where he had to learn to walk again. A few months later, it happened again and he was placed on a ventilator for 17 days after going into cardiac arrest. During the time that Alfie was placed in a medically induced coma, his family formed a life changing bond with his PICU nurse, Shelby.
Alfie finished his treatments in December 2023 and is now a 9-year-old who loves to play hockey. He receives blood checks monthly and considers Nurse Shelby to be apart of their family.
