This week, our school community commemorated Yom HaZikaron and celebrated Yom ...Ha'atzmaut in meaningful ways. With 132 hostages still in captivity and our chayalim actively fighting, these days hold profound significance as we honor their sacrifices and celebrate Am Yisrael’s unity and resilience.
This year’s Yom HaZikaron was especially poignant as we remembered those lost on and since October 7th, including members of our extended SAR family.
In Sunday’s Riverdale Jewish Community Partnership tekes, we joined the broader community in honoring the brave chayalim who sacrificed their lives defending Medinat Yisrael and those senselessly lost to terror.
Monday was a solemn day of tribute with special programming of remembrance and connection with IDF heroes from our community. We thank them for their service and protection of Am Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael.
On Tuesday, we transitioned to a joyous celebration of Yom Ha'atzmaut, beginning with a musical Hallel on the steps and a joyous and uplifting gathering on the field, highlighted by our 6th-grade daglanut troupe. The day included a competitive and fun Israel-themed Maccabiah for grades 1-5, Beit Sefer Lamusika, and a trip to Van Cortlandt Park for our middle school.
It was inspiring to see our students connect with Medinat Yisrael in proud and heartfelt ways throughout the week. 🇮🇱✨

This week, in honor of Yom Haatzmaut, we are featuring a few SAR alumni ...who’ve reached the ultimate peak and made aliyah. Today, we meet, Oshi Bloom (AC '14, HS '18) who spoke about how SAR shaped his decision to make aliyah. "At SAR, I learned how to define myself by who I am and what I believe in as opposed to who I’m not and what I don’t believe in. It sounds simple but it was an absolute game changer for me. Shout out to Dr. Schwartz for this important piece of Torah." #SARalumni #makingaliyah #YomHaatzmaut

This week, in honor of Yom Haatzmaut, we are featuring a few SAR alumni ...who’ve reached the ultimate peak and made aliyah. Today, we meet Tamar David Naveh (AC ‘12, HS ‘16). When asked the best thing about making aliyah, she spoke of the benefits and trials of living in Eretz Yisrael, especially right now. “I love it here! The best and worst are two sides of the same coin - my husband spent 5 months in reserve duty since October 7th, leaving me alone with our baby. It’s a privilege and a sacrifice all in one.” #SARalumni #makingaliyah #YomHaatzmaut #Israel #Israeli
