John Eberson – the architect who built the historic Tampa Theatre in 1926 – had a very distinct style, both personally and professionally. His wife, Beatrice, helped select many of the decorative touches in his theaters, including furniture, tapestries, and portraits. When we set about designing T2, we asked ourselves: “What would it look like if John Eberson built his own, private screening room for himself and his family? How would Beatrice decorate it?”That question was answered for us in large part when we discovered that John Eberson’s grandson, who lives in Ocala, FL, has a collection of his grandparents’ family photos. He also has a large oil painting that John Eberson commissioned of himself, Beatrice, and their family.Yesterday, members of the Tampa Theatre team traveled to Ocala to photograph that oil painting and the family photo collection so that those images can be reprinted and displayed in the new microcinema.Photos by Jeff Fay
