Penobscot Marine Museum Honors Maine Maritime Academy at its 2012 PMM Gala Auction!

MaineMaritime Academy has been preparing young men and women for careers on and along the water for more than 70 years. Created by an act of the Maine Legislature in 1941, the academy today has three training vessels: the historic arctic schooner Bowdoin, the tug Pentagoet, and the training ship State of Maine, a 500-foot-long ocean-going classroom that takes students on a two-month cruise each spring. On campus, students have access to sophisticated training labs, simulators, and world-class instruction.

Many MMA graduates have spread their talents all over the world; many have stayed here in Maine, helping our ecomony grow. They find careers in the merchant marine or military fields, as pilots helping vessels navigate in and out of ports, as research scientists and technicians aboard oceanographic research vessels and as business and logistics professionals worldwide. An impressive 95 percent of graduates find work in their chosen fields within 90 days of graduation!

Here at Penobscot Marine Museum we celebrate Maine's rich maritime culture and traditions. Maine Maritime Academy is training the people who will keep those traditions alive while using them to shape new innovations and to keep our maritime industries thriving. Thank you, MMA, for playing such an important role in Maine's maritime past, present and future!
