Now is your chance to not only get all the great items you want, but to do it knowing you are helping support our organization and mission.
The Parents' Association of Stuyvesant High School actively supports the school by generously donating time, energy and funds. Parent contributions have long supplemented Stuyvesant's bare-bones budget. Stuyvesant in fact gets less funding per student than the average school in the city does. So, each year, we provide Stuy's academic departments tens of thousands of dollars to fund research and classroom materials such as computers, books, and laboratory equipment. This year we funded among other items, the expansion of library hours, new musical instruments, a projector for Math Research, books for English and World Language departments, and WormLab, advanced software and equipment that provides research scientists with invaluable data about the behavior of C. elegans, which are used as model organisms in research studies. Our PA dollars support our kids' admission to college, by funding the Stuyvesant College Handbook, supplemental College Advisement, College Nights programs, and even the College Office copier!
In addition to its academic excellence, Stuyvesant is known for both the range and quality of its extracurricular programs. These include, to name just a few, Speech & Debate, Math Team, Robotics Team, Model U.N., as well as numerous publications, sports teams, and theater productions. Much of our kids' growth and learning come from these extracurriculars, which the PA also supports with tens of thousands of dollars. Plus, the PA funds events such as Camp Stuy and the Faculty Receptions to strengthen the bonds of our school community.
Over 95% of our PA funds go directly into school, parent, and community building programs, mostly into the academic and extracurricular areas that define Stuyvesant. The PA provides a huge portion of the school's total discretionary dollars to enhance the education of our children directly. Without your support, the academics and extracurriculars, as well as the community fabric of the school, would be greatly diminished.
