Music + Nature = Mendocino represents a new chapter in a longstanding partnership between two organizations.

The Mendocino Music Festival is a magical blend of fine music by outstanding performers in one of the most enchanting sites on earth. Evenings include breathtaking concerts featuring the glorious Festival Orchestra, the popular Big Band concert featuring guest singers, chamber music ensembles, dance, blues, jazz, world, folk, and popular contemporary music, all performed in a 16,000 square foot tent concert hall perched on the bluffs overlooking Mendocino Bay and the Pacific, and surrounded by one of the most picturesque towns in the world.

The Mendocino Area Parks Association supports the activities of six docent councils and the visitor centers at MacKerricher, Van Damme, Greenwood/ Elk, and Hendy Woods State Parks, providing historic and nature displays, school field trips, and various learning opportunities for park visitors or all ages, such as whale walks in February, wildflower walks in the March and April, the Mendocino Heritage Days, co-sponsored by the Ford House, in late May, and Tidepool walks in May and June. MAPA also provides for summer naturalists and a State Park Interpreter, who offer local school and public educational programs..

Twenty-six years ago, the Festival was invited to hold its first season on the Mendocino Headlands. Every July since then, the tent concert hall has been raised next to the Ford House, under the stewardship of the Mendocino Area Parks Association. MAPA and MMF have a close and mutually beneficial relationship, with similar missions; to inspire, enrich and educate. Both organizations contribute to the economic viability of the area by drawing thousands of visitors each year to the Mendocino Headlands. As the Festival's neighbor and host on the headlands, MAPA has always worked hand in hand with MMF, accommodating the Festival in countless ways, both seen and unseen. In turn, the Festival has supported MAPA over the years. The Festival's very character depends largely on its magnificent setting--in a park!
