About Laura Jemison
A young Laura was always drawing. As an independent and intense child developing a passion for observing and creating kept me occupied, and became my companion. My six year old self chose Seurat’s “Sunday Afternoon on the Park” as my favorite painting from our monthly visits to Chicago’s Art Institute. Being an artist was my strength or maybe my salvation.

I started painting in college at 17. Throughout schooling, careers, family, travel, I was always observing variations of patterns, color, shapes, spacial use and their relationships to each other. I kept on painting. At 47, I entered an experimental graduate program at the PA. Academy of Fine Arts, which helped me approach painting in a different way. I was encouraged to paint by developing my own voice. Play to my strengths. Follow my natural muse.

Each work helps me define that voice. I strive to combine my love of color with a free and energetic hand. I continue my artful life, still observing, still drawing and still painting.
