A team from a @TAPSorg program in Boston participated in a facilitated program, toured @USSConstitution, met with CDR Farrell, and then painted these beautiful murals to brighten up our Ed Center. TAPS supports families and children who have lost a parent through military service. The murals have moved into our office, still making our days more colorful!

In March of 2022, we wanted to brighten up the Education Center at the Museum. So, we turned to a group of young adults as part of a @TAPSorg program in Boston to lend their talent to create beautiful murals depicting @USSConstitution. Even though they've been replaced to make way for a new exhibition, our staff still enjoys them every day on the walls of our office!

We have another miniboat update! First launched in 2022, Hope was another Educational Passages boat built by Boston's Donald McKay School. After an initial bumpy journey from Florida, Hope was helped along the way by many people and made its way up the East Coast. It eventually landed in South Carolina, was relaunched, and finally made it to Maine! Luckily, Edward Davis picked up Hope at sea while fishing near St. George, Maine before it could land on the rocky shore. 👏

Ed kept the boat safe all summer, until Sarah, from our Museum staff, met him in March 2024. Sarah brought Hope back to the Museum so it could be put on display and repaired before going out on its next adventure. Huzzah! #Teamwork

We have an update on the miniboat Special. Our second miniboat project with Educational Passages was built by third graders at the Donald McKay School, a public school in East Boston over the winter of 2022. Special landed in Plouescat, France one year to the day that it was relaunched off the coast of South Carolina by the container ship M/V Colorado Express. 🇺🇸

After the boat's GPS stopped reporting, a Hungarian family on vacation in the area watched it come in with the tide! The Matyas family moved it above the tide line and emailed us photos! Unfortunately, they went back the next day and found someone had already taken the boat. Wse don't know who has the boat now, so it seems we have an endpoint in Special's journey for now. 🇫🇷

Its story’s like this I want to read. I would have loved doing this as a child. I bet this sticks with the children involved for a lifetime.

So excited to see this! My husband is the 2M on the Colorado Express and was the one to launch it along with Sullivan’s Island Elementary’s mini boat, Dream Sailor.

Looks like it's time for another one.
