Item Description
This Bach window is in excellent condition. The window measures approximately 21"x51" in a wooden frame.
Appraised by a specialist at Coventry Glassworks who says "Although no signature has been found, the work seems to be from the late 19th century/early twentieth century. The style of painting and glass selection indicates influences from the Arts and Crafts movement and is similar to several British studios and glass artists of the time. The Arts and Crafts movement was a time of exploration of not only design but of the making of the glass itself. In England several of those exploring colors and color combinations and textures of mouth blown glass to be used in stained glass were: Christopher Whall and Lowndes and Drury. The two windows are now up for auction exhibit glass of this nature in the red/yellow background of Handel and in the green background glass of Bach. This is not to say that these people made this glass, just that this kind of experimental blown glass was being explored during this time and place. The painting on these windows uses traditional glass paints and techniques (glass strainers, colors, and silver stain)".
