Mwanyisa (meaning strength in Shona) is a strong power African doll, adorned in custom Ndebele dress and ornaments. Wearing her neck rings called (idzila) that symbolize her status and loyalty.Her clothing is custom designed that reflect her Ndebele wall painted home in Zimbabwe, with bold colors and geometric shapes. Mwanyisa is wearing beading which is a traditional hand craft done in her tribe.
Item Special Note
Khalalelo is a Zimbabwean textile and surface designer based in Toronto. She grew up in Montreal and completed her fashion design degree in 2012 and has previously studied textile design at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia.
Khalalelo’s work reflects her cultural background of the Ndbele tribe in Zimbabwe, with emphasis on bold color, line and geometric shapes. She brings these influences in a contemporary setting, and is also gets inspiration by her extensive travels abroad. She has been freelancing her print designs to the contemporary market in fashion and interior industries.
Some of her clients include: Ardene, Dynamite/Garage, Stone Rose, Target Australia and Spotlight Australia.
Khalalelo is currently completing her BA in Material Art & Design at OCAD specializing in textiles print and knit.
