Item Description
Come for a sail, and explore the northeast reaches of New York’s harbor aboard
the privately-owned cruising yacht Lucinda. Relax on deck or help out in the
cockpit. Everyone gets a chance to steer, and to help with sails if you wish.
You will be in good hands, as your host has sailed across the Atlantic twice, as
well as from California to Tahiti… and back!
Your four-hour sail will begin and end at a private yacht club on City Island, a
quaint nautical haven located off the coast of the Bronx (!) and easily reached
by public transportation or car.
Refreshments including fruit and cheese will be provided, along with a sailor’s
ration of very fine rum once we are back at anchor.
Depending on wind, weather, and tidal currents, your voyage may include sailing
right under one of NYC’s great bridges, or past such fascinating historic and
literary spots as NYC’s “Potter’s Field” on Hart Island, where more than 800,000
impoverished or unclaimed New Yorkers have been buried since 1869; or the
actual “green light” which so fascinated the title character in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s
novel The Great Gatsby.
