Item Description
In Transformation (5”x4”x6”) the artist, Kathleen Shellrude, used traditional stoneware and married it with resin to create a truly unique and mystical piece. With real butterfly wings, red garnet (in a tiny potion bottle; the cork removable), leaf skeletons, hanging gears and cogs, clear quartz crystals and moss, she has brought the natural world to the world of humankind. Created in 2019 this piece is infused with the strength of stone and the magic of transformation.
Kathleen Shellrude was born in Winnipeg in 1976 and graduated from the U of W in 2005, after which she taught on multiple continents and worked with street-involved women. Shellrude has been working out of the community studio at The Edge and has found her stride using the natural elements as both inspiration and the components she works into her vases, mugs and dishes. She revels in the magic inherent in stones, crystals, bones and plants and often works spells into the vessels themselves.
