Item Description
Richard's book FROGMEN is about when he served as a crew member aboard Captain Jacques Cousteau's famed ship, Calypso, between 1973 and 1979. Richard started with Cousteau right out of high school, driving an equipment truck from Los Angeles to northern Saskatchewan, Canada. There he helped build a house for the team to stay in that winter and film Beavers of the North Country. He returned a year later, serving as a deck hand aboard the ship. Richard worked his way up to become a diver, photographer and navigator on subsequent voyages. One highlight was when singer songwriter, John Denver, rendezvoused with the Cousteau team in Belize, where they dove together and John gave a wonderful concert on the deck of Calypso, which aired on John's Christmas television special that year and won an Emmy. Another highlight was diving on the 230 foot-deep wreck of the USS Monitor, from the Civil War.
Richard is a business executive, professor, environmentalist, public speaker, podcast host, mentor and aquanaut.
