Nan Rumpf - Artist Statement
The process is the most captivating part of painting for me. I like to see how watercolors and other water media react to different painting surfaces and how they interact with each other.
Experimenting with different methods to obtain accidental texture also appeals to me. These experiments give me something to respond to and motivate me to continue experimenting with shape, value, and composition as I develop each painting. I am attempting to capture the essence of forms and shapes from my observations, memories, and imaginings.
