Item Description
This dynamic daylong program is based on time-tested models of transformational learning. Games, high-stakes scenarios and live thought experiments challenge participants to think in new and bigger ways about what they know, why it matters and how to use it for maximum impact. We explore how credibility works and how to establish it; how to present ideas quickly and powerfully under pressure; when and why people change their minds; the difference between being "right" and being effective; and strategies for greater impact, including how to escape a pigeonhole, how to preach beyond the choir, and the power in seeing your ideas as part of a bigger picture. Participants emerge with an op-ed outline in hand, and access to OpEd Project journalist mentors for individual follow-up. The programs are held nearly every weekend, on a rotating basis. Upcoming programs happening here: NYC, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Atlanta, Detroit, Seattle, Austin, Dallas, Tucson and more.
Item Special Note
Who should attend: This program is open to everyone, across color, creed, class, sexuality, gender and beyond. The OpEd Project especially targets underrepresented voices (including women). It is equally suitable for those with or without publishing experience. Why this matters: The voices and opinions we hear in the world come from an extremely narrow slice of society: mostly white, privileged, Western and overwhelmingly male. What could we accomplish if we invested in our missing brain power? About The OpEd Project: The OpEd Project was founded to drive more and better ideas into the world, from a wider range of voices. It's a community of journalists and thought leaders who actively share knowledge, resources and connections across color, creed, class, sexuality, gender and beyond. They have been featured in most major media. They believe in a world where the best ideas, regardless of where they come from, have a chance to be heard and to shape society and change the world.
