Item Description
In this 45 minute session:
Let's talk about the new babies in your area and how you can celebrate them! I'll encourage you in steps to make this a reality in your community along with ways to balance taking care of your own babes at home! We're in this together and I can't wait to talk more about this unexpected journey we are on.
Carissa's Bio:
Carissa became the Founder and Executive Director of a non profit organization called Jack's Basket in 2014, after a year of discovering the amazing joy in the unexpected when her middle child, Jack, was diagnosed at birth with Down syndrome. She shares that his life inspired her to share the mission that every child should be celebrated and every family congratulated. At his one-year birthday they delivered their first Jack’s Basket containing a letter of encouragement, gifts, resources, and support to a new family on this journey. Jack's Basket recently celebrated their 800th baby, congratulating parents around the world (44 United States and 6 countries), and inspiring others to start a program in their own communities. Carissa is making a difference in the medical community by presenting to health care providers on best practice for delivering a Down syndrome diagnosis along with providing a parent's perspective, and coauthoring the recent publication in American Academy of Pediatrics titled: When Bad News Isn't Necessarily Bad; Recognizing Provider Bias when Sharing Unexpected News. Carissa lives in the Twin Cities with her husband Chris, and three children, Luke (7), Jack (5), and Taylor (3). Visit the website, www.jacksbasket.org to find out more about the Jack's Basket program.
