What is Four Point?

Gould’s Four Point Program is an almost 30-year-old tradition that starts in the ninth grade and ends upon graduation. Every year, just before spring break, classes embark on experiential learning opportunities that help shape them into well traveled, responsible citizens. Sure, learning still happens in the classroom, but it also happens through meaningful experiences outside of traditional academic settings.
Ninth Grade “Immersion”: During their first year at Gould, students travel to Tanzania, Ecuador or China to experience entirely new cultures. These trips are meant to broaden students’ views and offer an invaluable tool in their journey through their academic and personal life.
Tenth Grade “Expression”: During this time, students work with some of Maine’s best artists and philanthropists to develop their creative confidence, better understand service, and strengthen their sense of place as it relates back to how they can impact their own various communities.
Eleventh Grade “Awareness”: It’s time for students to head outside and to the White Mountains for eight days of winter camping. Away from modern conveniences, students learn more about themselves and their peers, and the benefits of teamwork and personal responsibility.
Twelfth Grade “Independence”: Welcome to the driver’s seat. Some students choose an independent service project that they are passionate about; others choose to venture out into various parts of the world. Whether it’s cleaning up the Ohio River or community service in Guatemala, the twelfth grade independent project serves as the culmination of a student’s many Four Point travels and learnings.

The annual Four Point Auction raises funds to help us meet the over $200,000 required to execute Four Point each year. Your gifts to the online and live auction helps us make this the best experience possible.
