Center for the Arts Eagle Rock - The End of Paper by Joe Forte

Paper is an intimate part of our lives, it has been a vessel for our thoughts; a facilitator of our dreams, a vehicle for commerce; a recorder of our ambitions, a channel for information; and, in general, an emolument that has greased our cultural, spiritual and intellectual exchanges since civilization first took hold. With the advent of technology, however, the peak of paper is at its end. A screen in every house, car, office and hand is the symbol of paper’s accelerating irrelevance.

Or is it?

In this show I am contemplating paper’s ubiquity, showcasing its astonishing variety of uses, celebrating its centrality, mourning its demise. I am asking the question: In a time of change, what is it we keep and what is it ultimately, we leave behind...

All proceeds from the show’s art sales will support free after school arts programs for underserved elementary and middle school students throughout Northeast Los Angeles at Center for the Arts Eagle Rock’s Imagine Studio.
