Support Grants for NYC Indie Theater

The Indie Theater Fund protects, sustains, and strengthens independent theater presented in the five boroughs of NYC by providing a mechanism for self-sustainability. In addition to granting vital financial resources to theater companies, independent venues, and individual artists, we stimulate the growth of independent theater by seeding projects that support and develop the community as a whole. ITF exists to not only support members financially, but also to advocate on their behalf.

Your support of this auction will help us to make MORE grants to small, independent theaters and artists in New York City in 2019! Our $1,000 grants are given to members in order to pay artists and administrators from underrepresented perspectives. This year, we'll be giving out AT LEAST 15 grants - the most we've ever given! Your support of this auction translates into support for hundreds of theater professionals all around New York City. 

Every day in NYC, hundreds of companies and thousands of artists make innovative and deeply original work in indie theaters. Made up of downtown and Off-Off Broadway theaters, this diverse community represents the research and development wing of American theater. Indie theater is the breeding ground of artistic and managerial innovation with influence far beyond its means or visibility. It’s where artists like Sam Shepard, Tony Kushner, Al Pacino, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bernadette Peters, and many more began their careers; where Hair, Urinetown, and more started. Our member theaters represent thousands of NYC artists of all ages and levels of experience. We make a concerted effort to reach communities of color and those theaters that are underrepresented in the greater NYC theater community.
