Cherish the Ladies Concert to Benefit the Sisters of St Clare

On Sunday, February 11, 2018, Joanie Madden and the Cherish the Ladies band will be in Clearwater, Florida to present an afternoon of outstanding entertainment and music. The Band’s Clearwater concert will benefit the Sisters of St. Clare in the Florida Region, particularly the Sisters’ ministries and their retirement needs.

Cherish the Ladies has toured the world, played at the White House and the Olympics, recorded 16 albums, been featured on NPR’s Thistle and Shamrock, and won an Emmy for a Public Television Special that aired across America and Ireland.  As the Boston Globe reported, “It is simply impossible to imagine an audience that wouldn’t enjoy what they do.”  Under the leadership of the dynamic and irrepressible flute and whistle champion, Joanie Madden, these ladies create an evening that includes a spectacular blend of virtuoso instrumental talents, beautiful vocals, captivating arrangements, and stunning choreography. Their continued success as one of the top Celtic groups in the world is due to the ensembles ability to take the best of Irish traditional music and dance and put it forth in an immensely entertaining package.“  They performed thousands of concerts and have collaborated with such notable musicians as The Boston Pops, Don Henley, Arlo Guthrie, The Chieftains, Vince Gill, Nanci Griffith, and Pete Seeger, as well as being the featured soloist with over 300 performances with symphony orchestras.

The proceeds fro the Concert will be used to help address some serious challenges facing the Sisters of St. Clare in the Florida Region.  For over 50 years, the Sisters of St. Clare of the Florida Region have ministered in schools, churches, hospitals, hospice homes and nursing homes throughout the Tampa Bay area of Florida. Yet, the National Religious Retirement Organization has determined that the Sisters have inadequate resources available to care for their retired and infirm Sisters.  Of the 11 Sisters of St. Clare in the Florida Region, 20% of the Sisters are older than 85-years-old, the Median age is 71-years-old, and only six (6) of the Sisters are still physically able to minister on a full-time basis.  Thus, the Concert proceeds will help defray an urgent need of a most deserving group of religious women.
