Freedom Community Historical Society is getting ready to run an online auction fundraiser.
Starting on October 26, 2024, Freedom Community Historical Society will be auctioning off a number of fun and unique items to bid on to raise money for our organization - and the more items we have the more money we can raise, so we're asking for your help.

Keen Hall Restoration

During the past 4 years the Freedom Community Historical Society has worked to acquire the funding to restore Keen Hall. Keen Hall is the last remaining structure from Freedom Academy. Freedom Academy was one of the first regional high schools in the State of Maine. Families from all over central Maine would send their children to stay with local families to attend Freedom Academy. Keen Hall was the educational director?s residence. Once the structure is restored it is the FCHS?s intent to have it available to the residents of Freedom and Waldo County as a community gathering place, site for continuing education, location for local farmers and entrepreneurs to gather and market their goods. It will also act as a museum for the region?s history.
To date the foundation has been repaired and completed. The bank has been stabilized and the roof has been replaced. The interior work and restoration of the exterior are our next objectives. It is the FCHS?s intent to maintain the historical integrity of the building. Your participation in the auction will help restore this structure and allow for a much-needed gathering spot in this area of Waldo County.
