Item Description
In 2008, Gil Garcetti shared his stories and photographs from West Africa with a small group of women in Los Angeles. As they looked at his striking images and heard him speak about the water crisis, they were moved to act. The women, led by Barbara Goldberg, committed to raising funds for five wells. Today, over ten years later, Barbara is the head of Wells Bring Hope, a nonprofit that grew from Gil's photographs and has drilled 580 wells, changing the lives of over 1/2 a million people in Niger, West Africa.
Gil Garcetti has published six books of photography and has had photographic exhibitions around the world, including the United Nations, the National Building Museum in Washington D.C., the Millennium Art Museum in Beijing, New York City Public Library for Performing Arts and the Fowler Museum at UCLA.
