ABOUT THE ARTIST
- Tamara de Lempicka's artwork epitomizes the Art Deco movement in portraiture from 1920 to 1940.
- She was an integral part of high-society Paris during this period, painting portraits of famous writers, artists, and thinkers, as well as leading industrialists and exiled nobility who brought her much wealth.
- The best-known Tamara de Lempicka works include those that portray sensual, sometimes nude females, in bold, vibrant tonality - glossy ruby lips, golden or black metallic tresses, or stark alabaster flesh.
- In 2020, one of her paintings sold for $21.1 million at Christie's in London, which beat out her previous record, set only three months before, of $13.3 million at a Sotheby's sale in New York.
- For decades, the artist has been admired by, and included in the collections of many celebrities including - Barbara Streisand, Jack Nicholson, and Madonna.
