John Hester, a Native Southern Californian, was born in La Jolla in the early '60s. He grew up in Pacific Beach surfing and skateboarding till his family moved to Leucadia in the North San Diego County area in early '77. The son of an Oceanographer, John has been around the ocean and the beach his whole life. Drawing cartoons and comics as a kid and becoming a "Surf Cartoonist" after Rick Griffin's work in Surfer Magazine made a big impact on John around '74, while at P.B.J.H. So many artists from the '70s influenced John as a teenager. "An amazing time to grow up in and I'm so lucky and gracious for that experience living near the sea and the surf culture I embraced in my youth. It will always be reflected in my artwork. That Stoke of growing up on the coast of the Golden State," says John.
John has done T-shirt designs for several apparel companies, artwork for ads that have been in Surfer & Surfing Magazines, and over twenty shirt designs and fourteen posters spanning the 34 years that the "New" Stonesteps Longboard Contest has gone on for. Recently, John made Vol 3 of the Surf Coloring Book series along with creating incredible murals and logos. When asked what it means to him to participate in the Holiday Surfboard Auction, he shares, “ I am very grateful and happy to be a part of the Surfers Healing Surfboard Auction.”
The board is titled “Cosmic Surf Spot”.

Payment will be processed post-contest and winner will be contacted by the resort.
Packing, shipping, and handling are not included. Boards can be picked up at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel or the purchaser can arrange for shipping. Boards will be available for pick-up and shipping after Monday, January 2, 2023. Boards must be picked up no later than Tuesday, January 31, 2023.
