Brains and Brawn for the Boys

There’s been a lot of talk lately about what it means to be a Heights Man. I think we’d all agree that among the many answers to this question, a real Heights Man is scholar and athlete, wit and fit, brains and brawn. This year’s Fund-an-Item gives us a chance to support our Heights Men as both! If you can't make it to the night of the

Brains: Heights Librarian Jim Nelson would like to build a virtual wing to the library by introducing a digital book distribution system called OverDrive (if you frequent the Montgomery or Fairfax public libraries you may have already heard of it!) Once launched, students can check out library books on their home computer, eBook reader, iPad, or whatever! What’s great?! Lighter backpacks, and no more lost library books! When the due date arrives: POOF! The book gets returned.

Brawn: Thankfully our Two-Time State Champion Baseball team hits more home runs than foul balls. But with a field right next to Seven Locks Road, it’s time to make the drive past The Heights a little less risky! Being the responsible neighbors they are, Coach Brian Carroccio and Athletics Director Dan Lively have asked to put up line nets to protect our neighbors—a costly but cautious proposition!

Brains AND Brawn: Finally, to top it all off, we want to give a boost to all four clans by completing the Clan Competition Trophy Case in the front hall. Sadly, clan points are posted here on good old paper and ink, a blight on the beautiful burnished bookcase built by the Brotherhood. We’d like to have bronze clan crests and better signage created so that our score keeping system can match the tone and loftiness of the virtues our clans represent.

Together, these items will cost between $15,000 and $20,000. Join in on auction night to dig up gold for brains and brawn for our boys—for Heights Men!
