Item Description

Point Reyes National Seashore is one of the few places on the Pacific Coast where Northern elephant seals may be observed and studied. Invite up to 5 guests to join you and Dr. Sarah G. Allen, Ocean Steward of the National Park Service's Pacific West Region, for an afternoon excursion to learn more about these fascinating marine mammals.  You and your guests will have a chance to explore the habits and habitat of an elephant seal colony during their annual sojourn to the shores of Point Reyes.

Whether you choose to take your adventure in the fall to view juvenile seals or visit during the breeding season in winter, this morning tour will provide a unique opportunity to view the lives and behaviors of these ocean giants. Discover why they are so elusive, how they dive so deep and the function of those elephant-like trunks.

Dr. Allen is the co-author of the Field Guide to Marine Mammals of the Pacific Coast and is a preeminent expert on elephant seals and has studied marine life from California to Antarctica.  Her in-depth understanding of these beguiling marine mammals will give you a once-in-a-lifetime glimpse into their lives. Your afternoon will end with a picnic lunch held at the Historic Lifeboat Station near Chimney Rock.
