BIOGRAPHY
William J. O'Brien's multi-disciplinary practice, which encompasses painting, sculpture, drawing and installation, grows out of a personal, intuitive process. His visual language originates formally out of the grid and encompasses a wide vernacular range, from the very 'messy' to the very 'clean.' O'Brien's work has appeared in solo exhibitions at Marianne Boesky Gallery, New York; Susanne Hilberry Gallery, Detroit and the Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago, among other venues. His most recent group exhibitions include In Stitches, Leila Taghinia-Milani Heller Gallery, New York; Selected Works from the MCA Collection, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; and An Expanded Field of Possibilities, Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum. O'Brien received his MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2005 and his BA in Studio Art from Loyola University Chicago. He lives and works in Chicago.
