Vicky Stromee’s fascination with photography began at an early age as she watched her dad develop black and white photographs in his basement darkroom. By age 8 she had her first Brownie camera and promptly began photographing the family dog, her neighborhood, and family vacations. She has been an avid photographer ever since. When digital cameras arrived, Vicky embraced the new technology and has turned her guesthouse into a studio with an assortment of digital cameras, computers and printers.
Vicky has lived in Tucson since 1976 when she moved here to pursue a Master’s Degree in Counseling at the University of Arizona. When she retired from a long career in counseling, she turned her attention to photography, ultimately finding her niche in nature photography. Her work with a close-up lens reflects a unique eye for composition and form. Vicky’s work hangs in galleries, as well as in private and corporate collections from Vermont to Oregon, has been featured in the Phoenix Home and Garden magazine and on the cover of the recently published book: Desert Water Gardening.
My Fuji S5Pro and Nikon D3X cameras digitally captures these images with rich colors. In my studio, I use Adobe Lightroom (raw converter and image management software) for normal optimization of exposure. The images are then digitally output directly from Lightroom in final print formats to my HP Z3100 printer. Images are printed on Hahnemuhle Smooth Fine Art (or comparable) paper, which further illumines the rich detail and helps to achieve a balance of painterly abstraction and clarity in the printed image. All objects are shot in natural light where I find them in the environment.
