California native artist and sculptor Shelter Serra is a man more readilty equated with casting Hermes Birkin bags in cheap resin and seventeen car engine replicas at Helmut Lang's boutiquest than his raised-without-television childhood. As the son of the radical defence attorney Tony Serra and nephew of the minimalist legend Richard Serra, Sehlter first made a spalsh on the New York art scene in 2009, transforming objects into multimedia works that investigate the cultural status symbol.
