Description

Title & Artist: ?The Cod Rich with Friends? - by Norman LaLliberté

Medium & Size: Mixed media, 19" x 8"

Artist Statement: Enter a landscape of symbolism and allegory, vivid colours, and evocative compositions. Echoing Marc Chagall, Rauschenberg's Combines, and Rouault, Norman LaLiberté first captured the world's attention almost two generations ago after serving as the design consultant for the Vatican Pavilion at the New York World's Fair in 1964. Indeed, the eighty-eight large banners that filled the glass-walled space marked the beginning of a series of large-scale installation projects that both shaped and defined the artist's iconic career. Other major public endeavours followed, including a wall of painted aluminum panels for Terminal A (Delta Airlines) at Logan International Airport in Boston, banners for the 25th Anniversary of the Chicago Lyric Opera, and large-scale projects for the New York State Bar Association, Standard Oil, IBM, and Alcan Corporation.

Artist Biography: Norman LaLiberté was born in Worcester, MA to French Canadian parents. He spent his formative years in Montreal. He returned to the United States to complete his schooling, receiving a B.S. from the Institute of Design, Chicago and his M.S. in Art Education at Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. He first received international recognition for his work at the Vatican Pavilion at the New York World?s Fair of 1964.

He has since exhibited extensively internationally, and his work remains unmistakable. Filled with vibrant colors and dazzling energy, LaLiberté?s varied media and formats exhibit a tireless dedication to creativity. All who experience his paintings, prints, books, banners or sculptures, will recognize his passion for art and vivacious spirit. His work makes an imprint on the soul and mind of it?s viewers. They celebrate life, romance, history, science, philosophy, music, dreams.
