Nathan Lee - Sunday, April 7th, 2019 at 4pm
At the age of fifteen, Nathan Lee won First Prize in the 2016 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and was also awarded no less than fourteen special Concert Prizes. He currently holds the Mortimer Levitt Piano Chair of Young Concert Artists. On May 16, 2019, Nathan Lee will give his New York Concerto Debut at Lincoln Center?s Alice Tully Hall, performing the Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Orchestra of St. Luke?s conducted by Teddy Abrams.
Nathan Lee, who lives just outside Seattle, Washington, began playing the piano at the age of six and made his orchestral debut at the age of nine. He studies with Sasha Starcevich.
Alexander String Quartet - Friday, May 3rd, 2019 at 8pm
Having celebrated its 35th Anniversary in 2016, the Alexander String Quartet has performed in the major music capitals of five continents, securing its standing among the world?s premiere ensembles. Widely admired for its interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart, and Shostakovich, the quartet?s recordings of the Beethoven cycle (twice), and the Bartók and Shostakovich cycles have all won international critical acclaim. The quartet has also established itself as an important advocate of new music through over 30 commissions from such composers as Jake Heggie, Cindy Cox, Augusta Read Thomas, Robert Greenberg, Martin Bresnick, César Cano, and Pulitzer Prize-winner, Wayne Peterson.
The Alexander String Quartet was formed in New York City in 1981 and captured international attention as the first American quartet to win the London International String Quartet Competition in 1985.
