Description

Rancho Mirage modern artist Nicholas Kontaxis creates large-scale abstract paintings, characterized by a riot of primary colors, despite overwhelming personal obstacles. The 22-year-old's story is one of perseverance and hope. Kontaxis was diagnosed with an extensive brain tumor at 15 months old which resulted intractable seizures, autism, and developmental delay. Intensive medical treatment and behavioral therapy allows him to lead a full life despite significant communication issues and suffering over 50,000 seizures to date.

His repetitive inclinations and love of texture and shape helped Kontaxis discover his life calling as an artist. In the last three years, he has become a prolific painter, creating more than 200 complex pieces, using heavy body acrylic paints and a battalion of pallet knives. Kontaxis has created stunning commissions, including those for the owners of the Los Angeles Chargers, Kaiser Permanente, Cypress Investments, and an acclaimed 31 foot install for the new Hotel Paseo's AC3 Restaurant in Palm Desert, California. The wild success of his first two exhibitions at the De Re Gallery in Los Angeles, and the Gilman Contemporary in Sun Valley, Idaho, resulted in sell out shows and multiple commissions. Kontaxis' homecoming solo show at the prestigious Heather James Fine Art Gallery in Palm Desert in March 2018, opened to record breaking crowds for the gallery. Kontaxis has two more solo exhibitions planned for this year, The Ritz-Carlton Residences LA Live and the incredible new Tao Chicago.
