Description

A DAY AT FROMER MARKET GARDENS

Ever wanted to own your own Farm. Take a day to see what it entails by working along side our two experienced farmers. Let Dallas McCann and Becky Kempter guide you through a day in the life. Learn about tilling soil, harvesting organic vegetables and all the intricacies of a successful organic farm. Gain a better understanding of our food system and what it takes to grow your own.

This agricultural experience will be comprised of a delicious farm prepared lunch. You'll be able to sit and discuss all things food and agriculture while enjoying a meal prepared from the produce you helped tend. Before leaving, you will be given a Fromer Market tote full of fresh organic produce.

A Note from our Farmers:

Fromer Market Gardens (FMG) is a small-scale farm project on less than one acre of production area and a state-of-the-art greenhouse. FMG will be able to provide wholesome organic vegetables to the mountaintop community year round. In addition to selling produce to local restaurants, we will be working closely with HTC on developing educational programs for the high school students. Our goal is to interconnect the resources from our neighboring school and library to teach and inspire those who want to help strengthen our food system and learn about growing vegetables on a small scale.

Our methods are derived from successful market gardeners all over the country. With a focus on organic and biodynamic techniques, we hope to set an example and showcase how viable (and fun!) a career in farming can be. In addition to using newer methods of farming, we are attempting to farm at an elevation of 2,200 ft., and in very cold northeastern climates. This poses many challenges for any farmer but we are determined to prove that you can grow your own vegetables and feed communities anywhere around the world!

We are excited at the prospect of introducing a progressive farm movement to the mountain top community and look forward to working with local educators to demonstrate the value of sustainable ecosystems.
