Description

A tour of CERN (the largest particle physics laboratory in the world)

Aiglon parent and distinguished particle physics pioneer Dr. Tejinder Virdee, has offered to lead a group of up to ten people through the famous Geneva complex, including a look inside cathedral-sized experiment caverns 100m underground, where the 17-mile (27-km)-long Large Hadron Collider (LHC) lives.

Dr. Virdee is best known for originating the concept of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) with several colleagues and has been referred to as one of the ?founding fathers? of the ambitious project. The CMS, attached to CERN?s Large Hadron Collider (LHC), is a ?detector? capable of taking forty-million phenomenally detailed images every second, taking you back to a time moments after the Big Bang! It proved to be instrumental in confirming the existence of the Higgs boson.

This is a unique "once in a lifetime" opportunity. CERN is a place where some of the best minds in the world are working together to unlock some of the universe?s most baffling (and challenging) mysteries. It is also the place where the World Wide Web was invented.

Donated by Aiglon parent  Dr.Tejinder Virdee.
