Description

This gorgeous genuine Lea Stein "Quarrelsome" cat brooch was made during the vintage time period 1969-1981. Stein worked with her husband, a chemist, to develop a process of layering very thin sheets of cellulose acetate and laminating them to form a "multi coloured sandwich" of plastic that is then baked for a long time, cooled and cut into shapes.  The process can take as long as six months time! This brooch has a distinctive v-shaped metal clasp which is heat mounted into the plastic and inscribed with "Lea Stein Paris."

Stein has been called "the most notable and innovative designer of plastic jewelry of the 20th century."
