Description

Language can be slippery, double-edged and often inadequate. It draws us together and pushes us apart. The box explores this theme, utilizing newspapers from all over the world like a tower of Babel, inks, and acrylics. Flaubert's quote, from Madame Bovary, addresses how crude a tool language can be. His words are juxtaposed with Da Vinci's perfectly proportioned Vitruvian man. The box measures 9 1/2" x 9 3/4" x 2 1/4" with removable dividers.

Flaubert: "Human speech is like a cracked kettle on which we tap crude rhythms for bears to dance to, while we long to make music that will melt the stars."
