Description

Get Lost in an Array of Geological Wonders in San Jose, Tortuguero, Arenal and Monteverde in Costa Rica for Eight Days & Seven Nights for Two, Including Airport and Hotel Transfers (Land Only)

From splendid isolation in the rainforest to the majestic Arenal Volcano, welcome to a journey of fascinating scenic diversity, phenomenal wildlife, and Mother Nature at her most magnificent. Cruise the canals of Tortuguero, a navigable network of lakes and canals that crosses the National Park bringing freshwater to the park lands, where you can see the region's flora and fauna. This expedition includes a trip to the nearby Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, a zone surrounded by the Arenal conservation area, that encompasses a cloud forest reserve that is an outstanding wildlife sanctuary.

Begin your exploration of Costa Rica by landing in the capital city, San Jose, or Chepe as the locals call it! Aside from the surrounding beautiful mountains and volcanoes, the metropolitan business center of San Jose isn't much to look at upon first glance, but spend a little time here to see that the indigenous heritage and Caribbean culture prevail in music, food and language. Depart from San Jose to Tortuguero National Park, which can be reached only by airplane or boat, yet is still the third-most visited park in Costa Rica. Covering nearly 14 miles of coastline, the park is one of the most important nesting sites in the world for the Green Turtle (Chelonia Mydas), which nests here from July to October; from March to October you'll also find the Leatherback, Hawksbill and Loggerhead turtles. Tortuguero National Park hosts 11 habitats with 2,000 species of plants and 400 species of trees, in addition to a large diversity of wildlife that includes 57 species of amphibians, 111 species of reptiles and 60 species of mammals. Along the way, you'll transfer into a boat in Caņo Blanco for a two-hour ride towards Tortuguero. You won't find any streets or cars in the quaint town of Tortuguero - just nature at every turn! Come early morning, you'll travel down the Tortuguero Canals on an exotic boat ride to experience the spectacular sights and wildlife before departing.

The next leg of your journey takes you to La Fortuna de San Carlos, the gateway to the magnificent Arenal Volcano, which routinely bursts with lava and ash. La Fortuna de San Carlos connects the Arenal Volcano area with the cloud forests of Monteverde and Santa Elena and the northern lowlands of the country. Spend one day leisurely exploring the magnificent rural landscape, the view of the volcano from the town square and appreciating the simplicity and kindness of the people.

Your final stop is up in the clouds...or rather the Monteverde Cloud Forest! Bordering the Arenal Lake, Monteverde Cloud Forest reserve has earned its fame as one of the most outstanding wildlife sanctuaries near Santa Elena Cloud Forest reserve, encompassing a 26,000-acre biozone that features marvelous diversity. Embrace the misty atmosphere - you'll feel like you're walking through the clouds thousands of feet above sea level. It's no wonder the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is one of the most coveted ecotourism destinations in Costa Rica! It extends down both the Caribbean and Pacific slopes with temperature and humidity gradients that change dramatically over relatively short distances. You'll love the fresh air, the sounds of the jungle and the life it gives.
