Description
John Santoro lives and works in Chicago where he obtained his degree at the University of Chicago. John's aesthetic lies squarely within the history of abstract expressionism and his work exhibits thick, rich surfaces built up with oil paint. John also has an interesting, slightly wry sense of humor that comes through in both his subject and title choices. Santoro interprets landscapes, forms and structures in a simplistic yet focused way that invites the viewer into the work.
"Lake Michigan view from the Bluff"2020
Oil on canvas
9 x 12
From the artist: "This painting is one from a series of seven painted 'in plein air' from a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan located on the property of a funky converted farm house we rent every summer. It is a meditative view. This year I focused on the subtle beauty of the swelling lake with deep blues mixing with turquoise greens as the light reflects into water. The focus of the sky is the morning light dancing with the clouds. The view is sublime in its simplicity, inspiring in its vastness."
