Mt. Washington Observatory (MWO) is a private, nonprofit, member-supported institution with a mission to advance understanding of the natural systems that create Earth's weather and climate. It serves this mission by maintaining a weather station on the summit of Mount Washington, performing weather and climate research, conducting innovative science education programs, and interpreting the heritage of the Mount Washington region.
Each summer, MWOBS hosts the nation's premiere hiking event, "Seek the Peak." Now in its 23rd year, STP will take place on Saturday, July 15, 2023. This event welcomes hikers of all ages and abilities to the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire. The main hike goes up Mount Washington (elevation 6,288') and includes amazing scenery, the best above-treeline trekking in the lower 48, and a free tour of the MWOBS Weather Station. And then a fun Après Hike Party with live music, food trucks, and epic gear raffles. Hike by yourself, with your own friends, or get paired with up to 3 other participants of similar ability level ("HAMF- Hike and Make Friends"). The included STP registration package starts at the $300 level, earning entry into the event, an Eastern Mountain Sports event backpack, a tech-fabric event t-shirt, and entry into the epic gear giveaway offering items worth thousands of $.
