Description

Enjoy a mini family photography session with FunkyHulaGirl Photography.

Born and raised on the Big Island of Hawaii, Nohea Runnells officially became a photographer at the age of 10 when she decided that her ever tolerant cats would be the object of her artistic expression. Trial, error, and some great pictures inspired her to branch out to flowers, sunsets, and anything else that caught her attention. When Nohea started modeling at 16, she quickly found that good, professional photographers that were easy for a young girl to work with were few and far between. Inspired by a family of entrepreneurs, she began doing model photography for other young women and quickly became popular. Nohea's business name, Funkyhulagurl Photography, was inspired by her integrated relationship and respect for Hawaii. She began dancing Hula at the age of 14, gaining a new appreciation for the social aspect of the Hawaiian culture, a good compliment to her interest in the natural world. She would go on to get her A.A. degree in the Hawaiian Lifestyles Hula tract and still continues to dance today. Nohea's photography business has evolved to encompass everything from big wedding events to website photography and it's not uncommon to see her husband, Chris Runnells, also a semi-professional photographer and web designer, working at her side. Nohea currently resides in South Kona with Chris, 4 cats, 1 horse, and builds and landscapes houses between photography jobs.
