Description

Enjoy this striking signed and limited edition sicless on canvas by David "Kawika" Gallegos. Kawika is known for his "pyrographic" (wood burned) oil painting on beautiful Hawaiian woods. The original of this one is on Ohia, a rare wood found only on the Hawaiian Islands and nowhere else in the world. This incredible piece is entitled "Torchlight Fisherman." It measures 30" by 22" by 1" and it is print number 11 out of 50 prints.

After winning full tuition scholarships in painting and drawing, Kawika received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with High Distinction from California College of Arts and Crafts in 1974. In 1977 Kawika received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking from the University of California ? San Francisco. In the San Francisco Bay area, from 1978 to 1990, Kawika had numerous one person and group Museum exhibitions. During this time, he worked with the Famous Lithographer, Ernest De Soto. Kawika move to Hawaii full time in 1997.

His art has been featured in Architectural Digest, Art in America, Art Week, Smithsonian, Art Forum (With Ernest DeSoto) and the Encyclopedia of Important American Artists. David Gallegos is displayed in a number of prominent Museums and Galleries including The Richmond and Redding Art Museums,The SFMOMA Museum gallery and the Mexican Museum in San Francisco, California, The Northern Illinois University Gallery in Chicago, the Hobart Gallery in Santa Barbara, The permanent collection at the University of Arizona, Gallery Ravel in Austin,Texas, the Stanford University Art Museum at Stanford, and the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco, California. David Gallegos Artworks hang in a great number of private and corporate collections Internationally; and he is in constant demand for private and corporate commissions World ? Wide. His recent corporate Commissions were for GOOGLE, Constellation Corp.,The UB Group ? London, U.K., and numerous Hollywood Legends.

Please note: SHIP OR PICK UP. The winning bidder will be responsible for additional shipping and handling fees and Hawaii State tax (4.166%). We try our best to ship items as economically as possible. Most are shipped flat rate but larger or unusually shaped items may need to be shipped priority. Winning bidder is also responsible for postal insurance if the item's value is over $500.

The winning bidder will be notified via email Wednesday, April 3rd and asked for his or her preference of receiving the awarded item (pickup or ship).

Items won during Kona Historical Society's 2024 Online Auction are available for pickup from the Society's Kalukalu Headquarters in Kealakekua for 90 days from close of auction. If items are not picked up by close of business on the 90th day (June 29, 2024), items are forfeited! No refunds will be granted for forfeit items. All arrangements to pick up items should be made in advance with Kona Historical Society.
