Description

Pepperdine School of Public Policy Professor Gordon Lloyd was a beloved friend of Constituting America, serving as guest essayist in many of our online "History Holds the Key to the Future," online studies, and as a frequent guest on our live Constitutional Chats Podcast.  We were deeply saddened by Professor Lloyd's passing in 2023.

In last 2022, Professor Lloyd donated several copies of his book, Debates In The Federal Convention, to be utlized in our online auction, along with autograph plates. Only a handful of these copies remain.

Professor Lloyd's book, Debates in the Federal Convention," is one of the most well organized versions of Jame's Madison's convention notes we at Constituting America have seen! Organized as "Act I, Act II and Act II," Professor Lloyd provides an overview and the actual notes!

More about Debates In the Federal Convention

James Madison, best known as the father of the Constitution, was also the most thorough and thoughtful scribe of what one person called in 1839 the "political bible" of the American people - the report of the proceedings and discussions at the Constitutional Convention of 1787.

Through careful research, Professor Gordon Lloyd has recreated an edition of that report that most closely resembles the version Madison intended to leave behind for "all who take an interest in the progress of political science and the course of true liberty."

In addition to reaffirming Madison's profound contributions to constitutionalism, Professor Lloyd's edition restores Madison to his rightful place as the most trustworthy chronicler of the Constitutional Convention.
