Item Description
Upper School history teachers Callie Gropp and Michael Naragon guide their eleventh grade U.S. history students as they read the life and work of August Wilson, and explore the Hill District through the lens of the Civil Rights movement. The students trace the notion of community rights, a unique and under-explored element of Pittsburgh history. Students will participate in walking tours of the Hill District with Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation. Then, they will collaborate with the Ya Momz House, LLC. and Hill House Association to interview residents of the Hill District. These oral histories will be gifted back to the Hill House for their historical archives.
Be an underwriter of this community-based history unit: $1,500
