Item Description

We'll meet in the morning in San Francisco and head over the Golden Gate Bridge to one of the most spectacular National Parks in the country, Pt. Reyes National Seashore! We are lucky to have such an amazing wilderness paradise so close to us in a large urban area like the Bay Area.

I'll take you on one of my favorite hikes in the entire Bay Area, the Tomales Point trail! The hike will take us along the ridge of Tomales Point with views of Tomales Bay to our east and the Pacific Ocean to our west. Beautiful photo ops of wildlife and scenery abound.

Tomales Point is also a sanctuary for the endangered tule elk. As we hike, I will inform you about how the tule elk were saved from near extinction and are now thriving in the park. We'll stop to observe the elk in their natural habitat and discuss their mating behaviors, life cycle as well as the recent challenges they face in Pt. Reyes.

If we are lucky, we may spot other wildlife including bobcat, coyote, and many species of raptors (birds of prey) including osprey, red tailed hawks, turkey vultures, and various falcons. On clear days we even see migrating whales!

Everything is provided (transportation if you need it, snacks, etc.) except lunch. This hike is suitable for families with kids age 5 and up. Fall is the best time for this hike as the elk are most active (rut season).  Hike will take place on Sunday October 4, 2016.
