Gay has enjoyed solo shows in the Bay area at SFMOMA, Gallery Paule Anglim, Refusalon, and Mills College Art Museum. In 2011, her work was the subject of a survey at the University of California, Long Beach. She has been included in group shows in at the Sculpture Center and Bronx Museum, in New York, MOCA and UCLA (Los Angeles), CAA and the Berkeley Art Museum. She was the recipient of the Award from SFMOMA in 1998. Her work is in many public collections, including the Berkeley Art Museum and the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA. Gay was born in Mobile, AL in 1959 and currently lives and works in San Francisco.
