Item Description
This event provides critical funds to support our children's co-curricular enrichment activities including Art in Action, music, theater, computer lab, coding, Italian, Spanish, physical education and robotics.
Art in Action
The Art in Action (AIA) program provides a high quality, comprehensive K-5 visual art curriculum at SSPP. Students learn about works of art from cultures around the world, how to look at art using art vocabulary and concepts, and how to express themselves by creating their own unique masterpieces.
Music Program
Our SSPP music classes aim to cultivate and inspire the musical talents and overall musical curiosity of our students and encourage them to carry out their appreciation for the world of music throughout their lives and perhaps too in their future careers. The students are provided an exciting educational curriculum, with theory-based lessons that are correlated with National Standards. Students also explore various genres of music from the great classical composers to a vast repertoire of modern music with original music from leading composers in the music industry. The cross-cultural lessons are always a hit with the students, whereby they learn about the music, culture, and traditions of others countries. Our program would not be complete without our interactive digital component that features iSong technology, listening maps, high-quality recordings, and vibrant choreography videos, which the students love to dance to. Students explore various careers within the music industry and they role play the career in class. Your son or daughter might be a sound engineer with their own music studio, or an entertainment attorney, who negotiates a band's contract. The students learn to appreciate various facets of the music world.
Italian
Students in grades K-5 have Italian classes once a week for 45 minutes. Teachers introduce topics such as the family, ordering in a restaurant, giving directions. In grades 4-8 grammar rules are also discussed. The main focus is on class participation and conversation. The main objective is to have students walk away with basic phrases and be able to have a conversation in Italian. Classes include teacher modeling, partner work and group work (preparation and presentation of skits using new vocabulary learned.)
Spanish
Our Spanish curriculum is standard based and provides our students with the exposure to a foreign language that will enable them to communicate effectively and interact with cultural competence to achieve their maximum potential for success in a competitive, multicultural world. Students study a wide variety of topics that are appropriate to their age and stage. For example, while kindergarteners and first graders may be learning the basic names of colors and shapes, second graders will be building on their knowledge of colors and shapes to recognize them in everyday objects. As students move forward they begin to orally string sentences together using these words and eventually in written form as well.
P.E. Program
The Rhythm & Moves curriculum teaches students successful ways of moving, so they not only enjoy physical activity, but they learn that being fit is good for their physical, emotional and social well-being. The professional, credentialed and highly motivated Rhythm & Moves teachers, engage each and every student revealing their inner potential to embrace physical activity and life-long fitness.
Robotics
There is nothing quite like the 'ah-ha' moment when a child struggling with a problem finally perseveres. With a required Robotics course for all 5th through 8th graders, SS Peter & Paul offers many such opportunities. Weekly, students apply their knowledge of Math and Science -- along with some ingenuity and logical thinking -- to solve complex real-world Robotics challenges that yield tangible and rewarding results. Your support of this program will ensure that SS Peter & Paul students continue to receive invaluable hands-on experiences, all while learning to correctly apply Computer Science fundamentals, that will enable them to succeed and prosper in our technology-centric society.
