Chris Wright - Orale Wines

"I hear the word '¡Orale!' all the time when I'm out in the vineyards during harvest," says Chris Wright. "It's Mexican slang for 'Listen Up,' or 'Right On!' When I was naming this wine I thought of that expression. It fits the character of the wine: fresh, a ripe plum body, hints of blackberry and clove, a little peppery."

Chris's interest in winemaking came as a result of his experience in the restaurant business. "I started out as an expediter in the kitchen to make money during college. Gradually, I gravitated toward wines and spirits. Santa Barbara has so many great wines; I began to learn about them and developed an interest in making them myself."

The wines included in this package are:

 2016 Grenache "Vato"

From the Paredon Vineyard, pride of Carpinteria. Nestled 1300 feet above that ocean side hamlet are some of the finest Grenache vines in the county. On first taste layers of bright red fruit peel away into darker and deeper berry flavors, candied violet with a lovely white pepper spice on the aromatics. This is a unique and outstanding Grenache.

 2016 Syrah "Alta"

At the top of the limestone beds that make up Ballard Canyon in Santa Ynez, lies Tierra Alta Vineyard. This storied site creates some of the finest Syrah in Santa Barbara County. This bottling is a fine example of what that noble grape can achieve in this area. Intense dark fruit flavors roll across the tongue creating a deep and luscious texture across the mid-palate and a fine dark lingering finish.

"¡Orale!" is made entirely by hand in small batches and basket pressed. You can reserve a case by contacting Chris at cwwrighton@gmail.com.
