Item Description

A family arriving in the Bay Area as refugees has often experienced unthinkable war and trauma and brings little or nothing with them to establish a new life here.  These refugee families have escaped from Afghanistan as the Taliban took over the government in August 2021 and have endured great difficulties in their journey here.  In this new place and these new circumstances, they have been supported through transitional housing.  As they begin to find employment and gain some independence, they are slowly moving out of transitional housing into rented spaces, but are not able to bring anything with them.  They start again with nothing.  Having basic cooking equipment allows the family to move forward a bit and begin the process of adjustment and healing.

All Good Living Foundation is currently working to support these refugee families who have resettled here in Alameda and are in need of cooking supplies. Each family brings its own story and its own richness to our community, and with these donations, we can support them as they navigate this new chapter of their lives.

Catch the Wave-Tupperware is putting together a selection of Tupperware Brand Products, including Chef Series I Cookware, Cooking Utensils, Microwave Cookware, Tableware, Storage and on the Go.  Selection will be customized by Denise Lum to each family according to their needs.

Item Special Note

Dad’s older brother and family, another refugee who was in danger in his home country, had settled in Oakland two years earlier.  Their third brother is still in Afghanistan, hiding from the Taliban.  Like his two older brothers, Dad had worked as security for the US military, and was in danger when the Taliban took over.  They arrived here with only two suitcases, and both families share a small two bedroom apartment.  The family is eager to start their new life as soon as possible.  While waiting to find work, Dad is studying English.  They are waiting for their two oldest kids, ages 5 and 7, to start school.  Even with temporary refugee resettlement support, it will take them a while to be self-supporting. For a family going through so much loss, they are approaching life here with grace and enthusiasm, while still wanting to hold strong to family traditions.
