Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio
This home served as Wright's private residence and workplace from 1889-1909, the first 20years of his career. It was in this studio that Wright and his associates developed a new American architecture, the Prairie style, designing 125 structures. The Frank Lloyd Wright Historic District that surrounds the Home and Studio has the largest number of Wright-designed homes anywhere.
The Robie House
It is considered one of the 10 most significant structures of the 20th century by the American Institute of Architects. Recently, PBS named it one of the 10 Buildings that Changed America. The house was designed for Frederick C. Robie, a forward thinking business man, in 1908 and completed in 1910. The house sparked a revolution in residential architecture and is known as a masterpiece of the Prairie style as well as forerunner of modernism.
The Rookery Light Court
After opening his Oak Park studio, Frank Lloyd Wright rented space in the Rookery building to serve as his downtown office.Wright was commissioned in 1905 to update the interior lobby of the building, creating a spectacular environment that is one of his most dramatic interior compositions. Built in 1888, The Rookery is one of Chicago's greatest early commercial skyscrapers.
